Cross Point

Perspective. The whole of this peice very possibly could be sumed up in the  singular word, perspectove. When asking for ideas before I began the project, every one gave me a dofferent opinion, and even afterwards, I still received ideas that were different from my own. Though I was familar with acrylic, this peice taught me to layer, blend, layer, repeat. As I attempted to recreate the look of old wood on the peice. The drivig idea behind the peice, was the cross. From the perspective of many, it is a fencepost, keeping them in. Bordering their lives, and restraining them from being free. To the perspective of others, it is a lantern, a comfort, and a resting place.
Hopefuly, one can look upon the peice and be comforted, not set on edge, and realize, though a fence post the cross may be, it is one that protects us from something much worse.

Shibori

Carter Smith is a Shibori artist from the Americas who has been working with Shibori for over 49 years. He hand dyes each peice of fabric used to create luxurious garments out of beautifuly dyed silks and fabrics. He works in various styles, though most of the final garments are free flowing and drape gracefully. I was attracted to the work by its way of making Tie Dye, not look like Tie Dye, but something almost natural, as if the fabric grew like that. 

Sunday on La Grande Jatte

For this project, which consisted of re enacting famous paintings in order to produce a music similar to video linked here: 70 Million, my group selected the piece entitled: Sunday on La Grande Jatte.
My group, which consisted of Chelsea (Cardboard Dog & Presentation), Nichole (Cardboard Dog & Presentation, Tori (Woman in Red), and myself (Woman in Black, form, and lip syncing) worked minimally for the project, only creating 3 set pieces, and using costumes and surroundings to imitate the picture, without making the multitude shown in the original painting.
If I were to do the project, I would have selected an easier painting to imitate, as well as having memorized the song and played it while filming, as to improve the lipsyncing.

Queen Jane of the Blonds.

I fell in LOVE with this piece as I was painting it. Acrylic on Canvas may not be too new me, as it is my primary method of art. Yet, it was only my second time doing a portrait from a photograph of a friend. I drew inspiration from a photo she sent me to do one of her as a queen. After all, she always plays the queen when we roleplay. #geek. The main piece itself is inspired by the art of the renaissance.

As I molded my friend from the paint I often found difficulty getting the tones just right, and they would either be too yellow, or too light for me to use on the intended area. More than once I had to turn away from the painting, and do something else so I wouldn't ruin it. I learned methods of moving the brush to blend, or at texture without adding streaks to the painting. Overall, I love the way this turned out, and can't wait to gift it to my friend the next time I see her.

Printmaking

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. All of that, is describes the oh-too familiar box from the hit british TV show: Doctor Who. In this project, that 50 year running TV show was my inspiration. I decided to combine it with the also signature Fez and bowtie, just to add to the already amazing TARDIS for an overload of cool.
Throughout this process, I was working with a totally new medium. Never before had I carved, made prints, or used real ink. The closes I had  come was coating an eraser in magic marker and stamping it on scrap paper. It was really fun, and it's a medium I would love to use again.

Catch Me!

Catch me!~<3 Constantly, I'm terrified by the things that occur in the world around me, and no matter how badly I want it, I keep falling, falling, and falling. Each time I fall however, it seems I land right back in God's word. Finding in it, everything that I was looking for to hold on to. So time and time again, I'll let myself fall into his word, just to be surrounded by God all over again!

Just a few things from my art class

Majesty of Galaxies

For this piece, I picked the theme of disguise. Often, in everyday life we believe that God is completely invisible to us, and we forget that the creation around us, is an image of its creator. However, one medium alone did not convey the picture I imagined, so this piece is done in a variety of mediums, including watercolor, oil pastel, chalk pastel, acrylic, colored pencil, marker, and even whiteout. Through the project I had a variety of difficulties trying to correctly convey the idea of galaxies while forming the face of Jesus Christ. However, the mixing of a variety of mediums was very successful.

Overall the piece was completely successful, it turned out almost exactly the way I imagined it. I'm most proud of the top section, yet to me it is also the most distracting part. If I could, I would have planned it out a bit better as to improve the proportions of the face, and I would have sanded to board more. From this, I learned the importance of basic sketches, even on the final draft. I also learned that one can add layers of various mediums to blend out a color or achieve a desired effect.

Finished- Seed of The Sea

In the end, I think my first high school art project, this 2 in 1 project turned out very well. I would probably have focused more on getting the background perfect, and sketched the proportions onto the paper before doing the final piece. Unloved the way the mermaids face and the branches blend through her hair. The project shows a mermaid turning into a tree. Thus displaying 2 objects in one.

Two In One- Art 1

In art one we are currently working on Two-In-One art pieces. My piece, picture below, is inspired by the stories of the Dryads and Naiads of Myth and Legend. The story behind the piece is about a mermaid, whom was cast ashore on a cliff side during a storm. Unable to return to the sea, her tears watered the seeds of her love for the land she now was cursed to stay, and thus, she rooted to the cliff side. Turning slowly into the first Dryad.For the piece, I'm working with Charcoal on large paper, as to challenge myself. In the past I've mostly drawn with graphite and marker, as well as crayon. Though, most popularly I've used acrylic paint on stretched canvas, between the sizes of 2" by 2" and 11" by 10". The difficulties I've had with the piece first off are that I neglected to portion the drawing properly, and cannot fit my entire idea. Plus, with charcoal, it is exceptionally hard to do the detailing needed to portray tree bark in the moonlight.
